My wife has had left and right nephrostomy tubes for the last year. They are flushed twice a day. The left tube only drains for 2-3 weeks before it With nephrostomy, showering is the limit of wetness. And my nephrostomy tubes block more frequently and I don't dare schedule the change more than 4 weeks and risking blockages at that.

Kidney When I had my nephrostomy tube (twice), the other kidney produced in normal volume - about two to three cups per hour, depending on how much I drank. In other words, the kidneys EACH continued to produce at their previous rate. I had a nephrostomy as soon as the doctors saw that the tumor was blocking one ureter.
