I had a nephrostomy as soon as the doctors saw that the tumor was blocking one ureter. I used a leg bag during the day, and switched to a night bag for sleeping. Started with tape across the tube on my thigh for strain relief, the changed to a foley catheter legband holder-several different brands available, got mine on Amazon.
With nephrostomy, showering is the limit of wetness. And my nephrostomy tubes block more frequently and I don't dare schedule the change more than 4 weeks and risking blockages at that. I've observed my care and taught myself to keep the tubes as free as possible. How do you unblock the urostomy?
nephrostomy bag change, I was hoping that wasn't possible to get blocked. Just wondering if you ended up with the nephrostomy or not. I got pretty good at the nephrostomy change outs and dressing changes as well as some great tips for care for this. He has ended up with nephrostomy bags now and is waiting to undergo surgery to possibly re-attach the ureters. They won't know until they get in there as to how extensive the operation will be i.e, another portion of bowel attached, ureters shortened, etc.
nephrostomy bag change, Does anyone know what the long term effects are when you have had a nephrostomy tube in place even though it gets changed out every six weeks. Kidney My wife has had left and right nephrostomy tubes for the last year. They are flushed twice a day. The left tube only drains for 2-3 weeks before it I had to have bilateral nephrostomy tubes put in January of this year. My creatinine was at 8.6 and was basically in kidney failure. The tumor obstructed the stents that were inserted in the ureters.
I had the stents replaced every 90 days since March, 2014 while on cabitaxel and curstersen (clinical trial drug) . I then went on carboplatin and etoposide for three rounds which didn't end up ... A nephrostomy tube was inserted the next day, after the urologist discovered that the cancer was blocking the right ureter. I should be able to have my nephrostomy tube removed, soon.
